Happy Halloween!

 This year Halloween happened to fall on our regular 4-H day! That makes for one very fun 4-H Party! Everyone dressed up and played games and ate yummy food.



One Wild Group of Girls!

Instead of bobbing for apples, they bobbed for doughnuts. Papa Murphy pizza and LOTS of candy were on the menu.

 

Food Fun! Fleece Fun!

 A favorite 4-H activity is cooking! Especially if the food is yummy! The internet and Pinterest are great sources for unique recipes.

These Clover Gals made Gooey S'More Cookies!
The recipe came from kevinandamanda.com. It is a pretty sweet cookie and uses the new mini marshmellow bits by Kraft.

When the girls cook, they learn how to measure flour "the 4-H way" by spooning it into the measuring cup and then leveling it with a straight edge. They also learn to crack eggs by holding it in their hand, hitting it with the edge of a butter knife, and then putting it into a small bowl to check for shells and whether or not the egg is good. These are things the 4-H Judges look for when the gals do cooking contests...and how well they clean up their messes!

The gals have come up with some fun ideas for this year's club meetings. Themes! This week it was "Dress Like a Boy". Upcoming themes will include Halloween costumes, Picture Day, Crazy Hair Day, and other "crazy" things. Gives a whole new meaning to our club name!

Still working on those fleece tied pillows! Clover Gal is stuffing her candy corn pillow! They learn to put small handfuls in at a time so they don't end up with a lumpy pillow, and to get it into all the edges and corners.

Fall Fleece Fun!

 These busy Clover Gals are making pumpkin pillows! Last year we made candy corn pillows and snowman pillows. This new design will be a pumpkin to celebrate fall's arrival!

This craft takes 2/3 yard of orange fleece, small square of brown fleece, and green fleece for the vines.

The pieces were pre-cut by the Clover Leader, and the girls then had to cut the strips for tying it all together.

Once all the strips are cut, they will attach the pieces by tying square knots -- right over left, then left over right! By the time they are done, they will definitely know how to tie a square knot.
This design is a bit more difficult than some of the others we have made. It helps to tie the outside edges together first and to use lots of pins to hold it together until tied. We also used sticky dots to mark the beginning and ending of each side. That helped until they started using them to decorate their faces!

Another "Crazy" 4-H Year Begins!

We started our year off with our annual Ice Cream Social. All the girls brought their favorite toppings to add to their bowls of ice cream. This year our club has 10 members ranging from 1st grade to 7th grade. Officers were elected, party committees were chosen, and the girls had fun figuring out what they wanted to do in the new year!

The above photo was taken at the Washington State Fair in September. These Clover Gals completed a Fair Bingo and their reward was a trip to the Fair!
